Indoors, on hard floors, a child's foot must remain active rather than being restricted by stiff slippers. Our selected models feature characteristics that directly contribute to a child's healthy growth:
Anatomical Wide Toe Box: Kindergarteners' toes need space to "splay." This allows them to naturally grip the ground, ensures better balance, and prevents foot deformities from forming.
Maximum Sole Flexibility: These shoes bend with the foot in all directions. This allows the child to crouch freely, sit on the carpet, or run around the group area without restricting natural joint movement.
Zero-Drop Performance: A completely flat sole without a raised heel helps form a healthy foot arch and keeps the child’s center of gravity in its natural position.
We have selected brands that specialize specifically in the foot anatomy of kindergarten-aged children:
Models such as Be Lenka Play or Joy are highly valued for their flexibility and quality. Their soles are non-marking, making them ideal for indoor group activities.
Textile shoes from Beda are one of the most popular choices for kindergarten. They are exceptionally lightweight, breathable, and provide the necessary room even for wider feet or higher insteps.
Models like the Prio Youth are suitable for the most active kindergarteners who need a sturdier yet still barefoot-compliant shoe for intense indoor movement.
Since children move intensely in their groups, our assortment is dominated by materials that ensure proper foot hygiene:
Breathable Textiles and Mesh: Allow air to circulate, so feet do not sweat even after long hours of play.
Soft Natural Leather: Adapts to the shape of the foot and provides durability for daily wear.
Non-slip, Thin Soles: A specialized rubber compound guarantees safety on laminate or parquet floors, providing the child with a confident stride.
Give your child the best start with footwear that encourages rather than hinders natural development. Use the filters above to find the right size, width, and color to meet your child's needs in kindergarten.
Care depends on the material of the shoe:
Smooth Leather: Clean with a damp cloth; once dry, apply natural wax or leather cream. This keeps the leather soft and flexible.
Nubuck and Suede: Use a specialized rubber brush to remove dirt. Do not apply creams to these materials – only use spray-on impregnators designed for suede/nubuck.
Textile (Kids' and Summer shoes): Clean off dirt with a dry brush or a damp sponge. Avoid soaking them in water.
Children's shoes face the toughest conditions at kindergarten and outdoors. The most important rule is regular impregnation. It creates a protective barrier that prevents dirt from soaking into the fabric, making the shoes much easier to clean. We also recommend airing them out daily and removing the insoles (if they are removable).
We generally advise against it. Even on a low-temperature cycle, machine washing can damage glue layers, deform the sole, or dry out the leather, causing it to crack. Barefoot shoes are valued for their flexibility, and aggressive washing can compromise this feature. Only machine wash if the manufacturer (e.g., specific Be Lenka or Xero Shoes models) explicitly states it is safe to do so. To ensure safety we recomend using washing bags.

“Due to pain caused by hallux valgus, I had to see an orthopaedic specialist, who referred me to a physiotherapist. She recommended barefoot footwear. I’ve been wearing them for two years now, and the pain has completely disappeared. I truly recommend giving them a try.”
